Setting Sail

I never knew there was an ocean between Lexington and Marshall County. The encirclement of grey hues, mist, and falling water around my car left me thinking I was traveling the high seas, like I was heading back to the Old World. Sometimes, according to history, when people cross a body of water something big happens on the other side...

Hello reader,

My name is Andrew Colburn. I am a chemical engineering major, a senior at the University of Kentucky. I have made the voyage back to Marshall County, Kentucky to intern at a chemical plant. I intend on using this blog to post my musings and adventures in the MC. Not every post is going to be serious, and I'll be lucky if anything I post is profound.

The blog is titled the Furnace Area, because that is the name of one of the units where I will be working this summer, and I think it describes the idea for this blog pretty well. I am hoping this blog is where my thoughts can cook (well crack is the industrial word, but I don't want you to think I am making drugs).

I am looking forward to see how God moves this summer through my family, my job, and the local community. Hopefully I'll have some good stories to share!

To close I'll leave you with three bullet points about me.

  • The doctors lied to me throughout childhood and said I would be 6'0. I stopped at 5'9.
  • My arch-nemesis is a puggle named Ralphie.
  • I pronounce salmon SAL-MON. Just like it is spelled.
Hopefully you know me intimately by now. I have to be up at 6 AM tomorrow morning to fill out paperwork for my internship. I guess this is goodbye for now.

-Colburn
